A NOTE FROM MR. DOJAHN:

Greetings. I hope you and your family continue to remain safe and healthy this summer. As we get closer to the start of Summer Band Camp and the start of school, I wanted to provide you with an update on what has happened this past month and what we are looking forward to as our summer vacation comes to an end. From this point forward, I will be sending out weekly newsletters to make sure you have the most up to date information. The conditions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic are continually evolving. The Summer Band Camp schedule will be constantly evaluated to adapt to the continuing trends of the COVID-19 virus. There are still many questions as to what the fall semester will look like for us here in Midland ISD and the Mighty Rebel Band. Below is a list of our priorities as we move forward regardless of what the school year will look like.
  • We will provide band members as full of a normal band experience as possible.
  • Music advancement will be a top priority. We will bring students back up to their full instrumental playing potential.
  • We will provide performance opportunities for students as an end product to the music we will be rehearsing.
  • We will find ways for our band members to connect with each other building a stronger Mighty Rebel Band FamiLEE.
There have been a few very important decisions made recently since my last newsletter went out on June 12, 2020.
  • The Midland ISD School Board voted to begin the next school year on Wednesday, August 19, 2020, which means we will start our Summer Band Camp on Monday, July 27, 2020, at 8:00 AM.
  • TMEA (Texas Music Educators Association) All-Region, Area, and All-State Auditions will be video recorded and uploaded. There will be no live in-person auditions this coming school year.
  • UIL recommended schools consider closing summer workouts, rehearsals, practices, and instruction between July 3-July 12, resuming Monday, July 13 in anticipation of the July 4th holiday and potential for increased social interactions that could spread COVID-19. We are in compliance with this as we start percussion camp on July 13.
Enclosed you will find our re-entry plan for the week of July 13-16 for the health and safety of our percussion students who will begin rehearsals on Monday, July 13. The health and safety of our student musicians are our number one priority, and the enclosed guidelines will help us safely bring band members back onto campus for rehearsal. These guidelines are based on direction from the TEA, UIL, Midland ISD Fine Arts Department, and Midland ISD Director of Health Services, and current COVID-19 safety procedures. This guideline will be updated when necessary and published ensuring that we follow all current directives from state and local and officials.

Our Summer Band Camp schedule has not changed since our first summer newsletter. If changes need to be made, we will publish the new schedule one week before camp begins. I would like to give you a more precise schedule but rules and regulations are changing every week. Summer Band Camp is a crucial part of the marching band process, and attendance is required at all rehearsals. Summer Band Camp will begin for everyone on Monday, July 27, 2020.

Summer Band Schedule
July 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, and August 3, 4, 5
8:00 AM to 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM

Thank you,

Steven Dojahn

A NOTE FROM THE BOOSTERS:

At the moment we are moving forward and preparing as we would for any other year with the understanding that changes can/will be made as necessary.

We are in the process of working on a plan for our annual Extrava’BAND’za, which is band registration, that will allow for social distancing for our students, parents, and volunteers.  This will be held on Saturday, July 25th.  Please watch our social media pages for updated info regarding times, location, etc.

What to expect at Extrava’BAND’za:
  • Turn in required paperwork for Band and MISD
    • We will have a new online registration process this year so that you can complete paperwork in advance.  However, for those unable to complete the online process we will have paper packets available.
  • Make payments on annual assessment of $500.
    • You can pay it all at once or take advantage of our convenient payment plan of $100/month.
