Welcome to our band family!

My name is Morgan Marin and I’m the Freshman Band Director. I graduated from West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas, and this will be my fourth year teaching. Flute and Piccolo are my primary instruments, and my husband is the Director of Bands at Bowie Middle School in Odessa, Texas. He plays saxophone and is actually an alumni of the Mighty Rebel Band! In January we welcomed our first kiddo into the world, Oliver Ryan! Fun Fact: I haven’t been to school since January 18 - if you made the region band you’ve seen me more recently than my own band students (who are now sophomores!) I love to bake and cook, playing with Oliver and our dog, Luna, playing video games (Overcooked for life!) decorating our new house, and watching football - I’m pretty much a fan of all the Dallas teams because that’s where I grew up.

I firmly believe that together we are a team. I will always be honest with you about how I’m feeling, and I hope you’ll do the same. If you are a little anxious about coming back to school, I am too. I will do everything I can this year to give you a band experience that is fun but pushes you to be better. I’m working to keep my son and my husband safe and healthy, so I promise to do the same for you.

What is Summer Band
& What Should I Expect?

Some of you might be wondering “What exactly is summer band?” well, it’s awesome and here are some reasons why!
  1. You make new friends!
High school sounds scary - so start the year with some new friends and see your old ones! We are a band family and we can’t wait for you to meet the upperclassmen in your section.
  1. You get to play your instrument!
If you’re like me - in high school AND now it’s maybe been a minute (or 4 months…) since you played. DON’T WORRY. It is our job to help you navigate playing again and getting comfortable with new music. We’re all in this together!
  1. You’ll get an awesome tan!
You’ll learn all about the sock tan and it will be great. Make sure you bring sunscreen!

ITEMS YOU’LL WANT TO BRING TO SUMMER BAND:
  • Instrument (if you don’t have one, we can help you out)
  • WATER, WATER, WATER
  • sunscreen
  • a mask
  • a pencil
  • a flip folder
  • WATER (seriously...water)
  • sunglasses
  • a hat.
We will be outside (especially if you are a brass player in the morning block!) so dress accordingly. It will be warm and we will be working out - wear athletic shoes. NO SANDALS!  NO JEANS!
